August 2004 - Welcome

This year's trip was the longest ever: 20 nights; from Canoe Lake to Kiosk in the north, and back.

A little over half the trip covered new ground. We went in a counter clockwise loop from Canoe Lake to Macintosh, Big Trout, Burntroot, Catfish, Cedar, Cauchon, Kiosk, North Tea, Biggar, Gibson, Rosebary, Misty, and Tom Thomson.

At Algonquin Outfitter's Brent store on Cedar, we purchased 9 loaves of bread plus a package of bacon.

On the second night at Kiosh a raccoon pulled one of our bread packs almost out of sight and stole over half a loaf of bread. (that's what we get for not hanging our packs on the steep hillside site). There were quite a number of mice around this year. In all our previous trip we hadn't knowingly run into any. They seemed to be quite hungry. They chewed the drinking mouthpieces of our Platypus' and Camelback drinking systems.

The weather was amazing. It only rained about four times (once heavily), and always at night. The only disappointment was our last 3 days were quite cool, and somewhat overcast. Not swimming weather!
